Breast Reconstruction / Mastectomy: Case 1 (10725)

Description

This pleasant 50 year old woman was diagnosed with breast cancer (right lobular carcinoma in-situ) and chose mastectomy of both sides and immediate post-mastectomy reconstruction with tissue expanders and implants. She wore a 36 A cup before surgery. Her breasts were small and narrow shaped, and the nipple & areola were low. Her general surgeon performed mastectomies and Dr. Graham began reconstruction by placing tissue expanders. During her recovery, the expanders were filled to establish a proper contour and volume for later implant placement. A few months later, this second stage out-patient surgery was done. After that, under local anesthesia in our office, nipples were recreated with small skin flaps and tattoo was used to simulate the areola.
